Colwell Homes is a third generation home building company. Wesley Colwell, who emigrated from Canada in the 1920s, started the company in the 1940’s. In 1951 it became Hoover Realty Trust. Shortly thereafter, Calvin Colwell took over the company from his father and began to build homes and subdivisions in Norfolk County. Most of the building took place in Needham, Dedham, and Westwood. In the 1960’s, Calvin expanded the business into Medfield and developed the Indian Hill area. In 1980, Scott Colwell joined the company and learned the business from the ground up.

In the 1980’s the business grew and expanded into building custom homes in Wellesley and the development of Millbrook Estates in Wrentham.

Woodcliff Hills in Medfield was developed in the 1990’s. It has become one of the most desirable places to live in the area. Most of the homes were custom built which created a distinctive look to the neighborhood.

Maple Park Estates in Norfolk was the next venture with emphasis on New England Colonial style homes in a beautiful setting.

Our many years of experience and strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors allows us to build the high quality and energy efficient homes that customers demand today. In addition to custom homes we also work with homeowners to create custom homes on their own lots.
